 The Netherlands, otherwise known as Holland, is a country in northwestern Europe and, together with Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean, comprises the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy. The Netherlands borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east. The capital is Amsterdam and the seat of government is The Hague. It is a founding member of the European Union (EU), NATO, OECD and WTO, and with Belgium and Luxembourg forms the Benelux economic union. Many internationally-recognized courts are located in The Hague as is the EU’s criminal intelligence agency Europol. This has led to the city being dubbed “the world’s legal capital”.
The Netherlands is densely populated (3rd in Europe behind Monaco and San Marion), with 60% living in areas below sea level. The major industries are food processing (Unilever and Heineken International), financial services (ING Group), chemicals (DSM), petroleum refining (Royal Dutch Shell), and electrical machinery (Philips). Amsterdam is the financial and business capital and the 5th-busiest tourist destination in Europe. The country continues to be one of the leading European nations for attracting foreign direct investment and is one of the five largest investors in the US. Rotterdam has by far the largest port in Europe.

Print publshing is highly concentrated with heady interest held through Finland. Ad revenues are falling but print media still holds a high share at around 50%. Radio is listened to on average 3 hours per day, taking around 5% of ad revenues. Television is watched well over 3 hours per day, with cable integration at a very high 95%. Internet use is also very high: over 86%. All media outlets are therefore very interesting opportunities in the Dutch marketplace. Inquire about more effective localised penetration.
