 The Republic of Poland is a country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania to the east; and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave, to the north.
Poland is also a member of the European Union, NATO, United Nations, World Trade Organization, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Poland is considered to have one of the healthiest economies of the post-communist countries, and is currently the fastest growing country within the EU. Itis the only member of the European Union to have avoided a decline in GDP during the late 2000s recession. Poland has a large number of private farms in its agricultural sector, with the potential to become a leading producer of food in the European Union.
